Selena
Her career included being a performer, artist, designer and singer who broke down obstacles in the field. She was at once an American-Mexican traditional singer who brought together the two realms of music in an unison way. And she provided incredible Tejano music to a mainstream audience. It was her sudden death that destroyed her image. That's what happens to a lot of stars who die too young. Her fans have worked even harder to not forget what she's accomplished. Selena, the Tejano singer who tragically killed by a gunshot accident sparked a Latino reaction that can be likened to the reaction to the deaths of Elvis Presley and John Lennon's deaths. Selena was a hugely loved Latino singer across North America. Her music transcended cultural barriers and touched the hearts of younger and more mature adults. Selena was an asexual and flamboyant stage performer and was often known as the Latina Madonna. In her off-stage life, Selena was also an excellent role model since she actively participated in antidrug and AIDS campaigning.
