Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and anchor and. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in English literature. Mitchell began her career as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. She was then a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed situated in Washington DC. Then she joined NBC News Washington two years after that as a general reporter. 1981 she started covering the White House, and in 1988 was named chief congressional Correspondent. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell hosted and participated as a panelist at the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist in 1988's presidential debates which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her contributions to the protection for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included both Ronald Reagan terms in office. She covered many notable stories such as arms control, budget taxes as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to various summits while in the company of the President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
